According to the World Health Organization (WHO), TB has been affecting Rwanda’s communities for many years, with the latest incidence reported as 56 cases per 100,000 people in 2021. This represents a significant reduction from 96 cases per 100,000 people in 2000 – a 42 per cent decrease over 21 years.
In 2011, Delft Imaging supplied two mobile digital X-ray containers, including a central archive, PACS and CAD4TB software (for the automated detection of TB on chest X-rays) to the National Tuberculosis Programme of Rwanda. The project was delivered to the National Aids Control Commission and funded by the Global Fund and the World Bank, and the NTP of Rwanda used the containers for their national TB prevalence study.
The containers were interlinked through PACS to a central Kigali capital archive. Image transfer goes over the mobile network, and it takes little time for an image and participant data to appear in the main library in Kigali for expert diagnosis.
We also provided two CAD4TB to Rwanda in 2024.
