In Honduras, maternal mortality reached 47 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2023, one of the lowest in Latin America and a marked improvement from earlier years. Despite this progress, challenges persist in remote and underserved areas where access to obstetric ultrasound and follow-up care is limited. Localized deployment of diagnostic technology can play a pivotal role in bridging this gap.
In 2023, Delft Imaging provided five BabyCheckers to United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Honduras to assess its validation and uptake.
Following this pilot project, the second version of BabyChecker was released in 2024. This version includes additional features such as detection of multiple gestations, two-dimensional fetal imaging, and multilingual functionality.
Delft Imaging continues to work closely with the Ministry of Health and UNFPA to expand access to antenatal care and strengthen maternal health outcomes.
Make a difference
BabyChecker has been introduced by partnering with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to strengthen maternal health diagnostics in underserved regions in Honduras. During the 2023 BabyChecker webinar, José Manuel Pérez, UNFPA Representative in Honduras, remarked on its growing impact:
“Using BabyChecker’s algorithms has significantly sharpened our precision in medical diagnostics. The more we use it, the more specific our outcomes become, presenting a perfect integration opportunity.”
With nurses and midwives equipped with BabyChecker, antenatal care delivery is becoming more informed, timely, and accessible across rural communities.
