Despite a free TB care policy, access to TB care in rural Madagascar is still limited. The World Health Organization estimated the yearly TB incidence in Madagascar at 238 cases per 100,000 people in 2020; only half of the patients with TB are being notified and treated.
In 2021, the Ministry of Health in Madagascar leveraged the COVID-19 Response Mechanism (C19RM) to procure 14 Delft Light portable backpack X-ray systems for the country. Each system utilised the CAD4TB artificial intelligence software to detect TB-related abnormalities on chest X-rays automatically.
The project included training, installation, and after-sales support services.
