Eritrea, with an estimated population of 3.7 million in 2023, reported approximately 2,200 tuberculosis (TB) cases that year. TB-related mortality stood at 81 deaths. Despite a modest reduction in incidence compared to 2022, the country faced a sizable diagnostic shortfall, with roughly 2,285 individuals remaining undiagnosed or unreported. While some indicators showed improvement, the persistence of undetected cases and resistant forms of TB reinforces the urgency to strengthen diagnostic networks and case-finding strategies.
The Ministry of Health of Eritrea procured a Delft Light with CAD4TB in 2018 to automatically detect TB-related abnormalities. In 2024, we deployed 2 Delft Light and 6 CAD4TB to further expand the country’s screening capacity.
