In 2023, the Dominican Republic had a population of approximately 10.7 million. That year, the country reported 4,700 TB cases and 460 TB-related deaths. Despite modest progress, about 323 individuals went undiagnosed or unreported. The country also recorded 1,100 TB cases co-infected with HIV and 300 cases of drug-resistant TB. Notably, TB/HIV diagnoses rose by over 11%, signaling a need to reinforce integrated care services and ensure early intervention.

In 2024, we marked our presence in the nation by providing a CAD4TB to Unique Representaciones SRL.

Webinar insights

At the 2025 Delft Imaging webinar From Crisis to Care: Implementing TB Screening Programs in Challenging Operating Environments,” Dr. Clara De la Cruz, Technical Coordinator and Medical Doctor of the country’s National Tuberculosis Control Program shared how the Dominican Republic is strengthening TB detection among key populations, including incarcerated individuals and Haitian migrants, who account for a significant share of the country’s TB burden. Using mobile X-ray units with AI-enabled CAD4TB software, the program screened over 1,700 inmates in 2024, detecting 18% confirmed TB cases. “This approach allows us to identify cases that do not present obvious symptoms,” said Dr. De la Cruz, noting plans to expand mobile diagnostics to further reduce detection gaps.
