In 2020, Lesotho had a total population of approximately 2.1 million people. In that same year, an estimated 14,000 people developed TB. Among them, 1,100 were children. Moreover, there were 9,435 missing people with TB (of which 909 were children).

In 2019, Swiss TPH in Lesotho procured two OneStopTB clinics fitted with a multi-functional, stationary EasyDR X-ray system. The mobile clinics were used to support the Seboche and Mokhotlong hospitals.

In 2020, Delft Imaging supplied several portable Delft Light backpack X-ray systems to Lesotho, combined with the CAD4TB artificial intelligence software, and several partners as part of a grant received by the recipients from EDCTP.

In 2023, two mobile OneStopTB clinics (fitted with X-ray systems) were delivered to Lesotho. The two mobile clinics were built on a Toyota Hino 500 truck, single cabin and 4×4 trucks. The mobile clinics included an EasyDR X-ray system and the CAD4TB artificial intelligence software.

Making a difference

A 2024 study evaluating C-reactive protein and computer-aided analysis of chest X-rays as tuberculosis triage tests in Lesotho and South Africa concluded that CAD4TBv7 is an accurate triage test for patients with tuberculosis symptoms in areas with a high burden of tuberculosis and HIV.
