Timor-Leste reported 6,900 TB cases in 2023, with a significant 50% drop in TB-related deaths compared to the previous year. Despite progress, challenges remain in detecting and managing drug-resistant TB and TB-HIV co-infections, which rose by over 20%.
To help close diagnostic gaps, we introduced the country’s first CAD4TB in 2018. In 2022, 2 Delft Light portable X-ray systems and 3 CAD4TB installations were delivered to the tuberculosis programme, followed by an additional CAD4TB system to further strengthen screening and early detection efforts.
Making a Difference
Case studies
In 2024, a national TB prevalence survey in Timor-Leste used Delft Light portable X-rays with CAD4TB to enhance detection. Among 15,267 participants, 22% of bacteriologically confirmed TB cases were subclinical and would have been missed without CXR and AI support. The findings highlight the critical role of AI-powered imaging in identifying asymptomatic TB and improving active case-finding strategies.
