Ukraine reported 42,000 TB cases in 2023, with over 21,900 people still missing from care. The country continues to face elevated burdens of drug-resistant TB, with nearly 570 people unaccounted for. The health system also contends with high rates of TB-HIV co-infection, while conflict conditions have further complicated service delivery and access to care.

In 2023, we delivered 2 CAD4TB solutions to the Ministry of Health to support tuberculosis screening and diagnostic efforts across the country.

Case studies

In response to the disruption of tuberculosis services caused by the ongoing war in Ukraine, CAD4TB was introduced in late 2024 to support TB case detection among high-risk populations in remote and underserved areas. Mobile units equipped with portable X-ray systems and AI software enabled rapid deployment, helping to address the shortage of radiologists and diagnostic delays. This intervention demonstrated that AI-powered screening solutions can maintain continuity of care in conflict settings, enhance diagnostic accuracy, and improve access for vulnerable groups. The case study was presented by Yuliia Terleiva during the Union World Conference on Lung Health in Bali, November 2024.
